What is the process of an energy audit?
- We compile previous energy use data, basic information about your house such as square footage and heating/AC type and enter it into a simulation program which normalizes the data to outside temperature variation. This gives us a baseline of your household energy use.
- We give you a questionnaire so that we can get your energy use patterns and understand your goals for energy reduction
- During the audit, we spend 2-3 hours going through your house in detail (attic, crawl space etc.) utilizing a thermal camera to see any heat loss issues. We look for missing insulation, holes in the structure, duct work that is improperly installed, sealed or insulated. etc. We also review all appliances and their efficiency.
- We use a blower door which depressurizes your house to detect air leaks and to see how severe they are. We also look at the total air changes per hour. For the optimum trade-off between energy efficiency and clean indoor air, your house should have an air change approximately every 3 hours.
